31 Days of Horror and Supernatural: Black Cat (1934)

Day 22… Only nine more to go…

The first film to star both horror legends Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi. A mix up on a train puts a Hungarian doctor named Werdegast played by Lugosi in the same compartment as a newlywed couple. The travelers soon board a bus to their different stops but an accident forces the doctor to bring the couple to the home of an “old friend” played by Karloff. Karloff, playing an architect named Poelzig stole Werdegasts wife and child and he’s really come this way for revenge. Poelzig has a few secrets of his own and plans to take the newly married woman Joan for diabolical agenda.

Interesting to see Lugosi not as a bad guy. Pretty well acted film with Karloff being extra creepy. Looks good. Simple, short enough to not overstay its welcome. Overall a fine film I will never watch again.
