Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them from 2016 (Director: David Yates, Writer: J.K. Rowling Based On Her Book Of The Same Name, Stars: Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller and Colin Ferrell Runtime: 133 min)
A prequel/spin off from the Harry Potter stories finds wizard Newt Scamander in New York en route to Arizona. Newt has a case full of magical beasts and after a little trouble, a few get loose. Not at the best time too with the city being attacked by a mysterious force and a group known as the New Salem Philanthropic Society proclaiming witches have invaded their city.
So whats to say? If you like Harry Potter you’ll dig this. Its a fun film with some very good laughs. Newt is a strange but endearing fellow as is the others he’s around. Dan Fogler as the Mo-Maj (or Muggle) Jacob, the former Auror Tina and her sister Queenie. Really enjoyed Jacob as watching someone who is not a wizard experience the adventure is one of the films greatest strengths. All the performances were top notch, glad to see Colin Ferrell and was impressed with Ezra Miller. David Yates did a bunch of Potter films so yes, this one looks good. In fact, probably looks better than the last few Potter films. I enjoyed this one more than the last three for sure.
So check it out. Or not. Whatever, I liked it a lot.
On a note about trailers-not interest in Baby Boss and Sing. Passengers trailer did not impress me. Ghost in the Shell seemed like it was trying to hard to capture the aesthetic of the anime without the heart-the snippets of story turned me off. “Everything you know is wrong” idea makes me roll my eyes. Power Rangers trailer, second time I saw it, still feels weird but my uncle was quite impressed. Wonder Woman is a definite.
